Brivo ACS300-E-B Cloud Access Control Panel
The ACS300-E-B runs two doors, and it’s the panel we reach for most — not because it’s only for small buildings, but because it’s the one we drop wherever doors sit away from the core. A vehicle gate across the lot, a couple of doors on a far wing, a rooftop amenity floor — even in a tower running a 6100 downstairs, those outlying openings each get their own ACS300 instead of a home run all the way back to the panel room (more on that in our piece on remote-door access control in high-rises). And it’s PoE+ powered, so one Cat cable off the nearest switch carries both the network and the power — nothing else to pull. Put it on WiFi if that’s easier, wire the two doors, and it comes up in the same Brivo account as everything else. But honestly the panel is almost beside the point — what you’re really buying is Brivo’s cloud. Plenty of systems claim “cloud” now; very few actually do it well, and frankly nobody does it the way Brivo does. There’s no access server in a closet for somebody to patch, back up, and eventually replace. Your database, credentials, schedules — all of it lives in Brivo’s cloud, replicated, the company says, across at least three separate hardened servers with backups on top. We’ve pulled more than one Paxton site back together after a local database went sideways; in years of running Brivo we’ve never had that conversation. Over a few years it usually pencils out cheaper than babysitting your own server, too.
That cloud is why the corporate and multi-location crowd leans on it. A regional manager can sit in an LA office and watch the front door of the Chicago branch in real time, add an employee, pull someone’s access, move a schedule around — all from a browser. One fob can open the right doors across offices in different cities for the people who are supposed to have them, and no one else. When a tenant moves out, the building manager can cut them off from a phone — on vacation, out sick, doesn’t matter — log into Brivo and it’s done.
The day-to-day is where people fall for it. The interface is genuinely easy: you can enroll a fob that didn’t come from Brivo, or keep a building’s legacy 125 kHz prox cards alive, since the Brivo multi-tech readers still read them. Leave the doors unlocked on a schedule through business hours and flip them to fob-only at night without touching anything. Glance at the dashboard and every door tells you whether it’s open or secure, online or not — exactly what you want the morning after a bad storm or a power blip. Need the gates too? Put a Control ID unit on the same system and you’re running the vehicle gate off the same screen as the lobby door, which for an HOA or a big apartment building is the whole game.
On the hardware: a 2-door panel in a metal enclosure built to mount and wire cleanly, OSDP v2 secure channel plus Wiegand for older readers, battery-backup-ready so a power cut doesn’t lock everyone out, and a tamper switch on the box. It connects over Ethernet or WiFi — and the WiFi isn’t an afterthought, it can be the main link or the backup if Ethernet drops, with an optional LTE add-on where a site needs cellular. In an apartment building you can almost always catch a network to lean on for that backup. It ties into the fire alarm cleanly for egress on alarm. And the part people always worry about with anything “cloud”: if the internet goes down, the panel keeps running on its own — doors, credentials, schedules all still work — and the second it’s back it syncs up and hands over every log from while it was dark. It doesn’t go stupid without the cloud.
