HID Signo PIV Mechanical Keypad — FIPS 201 PIV with Tactile Keypad for Outdoor + Gloved Positions

The HID Signo PIV Mechanical Keypad Reader carries the same FIPS 201 credential set as the Signo 40K PIVPIV / CAC / TWIC / FRAC, HID Mobile Access, iCLASS SE / SEOS — but swaps the touch surface for a mechanical tactile keypad with real button travel. Communication over OSDP v2 AES-128 encrypted secure channel + Wiegand legacy support, from HID Global.

The polar vortex doesn’t care what credential standard the door runs — buttons you can press through insulated gloves do. That’s the whole reason this variant exists: a dock gate in January, a cold-storage door, a yard entry in sleet, all with a card-plus-PIN policy attached.

When PIV + Mechanical Keypad Go Together

  • Warehouse dock gates where crews carry TWIC cards and gloves stay on all shift
  • Cold-storage entries — capacitive touch is unreliable below freezing with gloved hands
  • Outdoor gates at offices working government contracts with a PIN requirement
  • Loading dock and service entries with a written card-plus-PIN policy
  • Wet positions — rain and sleet can mis-register on a touch surface; a real button can’t be fooled
