HID Signo 20K — Compact Mullion Multi-Technology Reader with Capacitive Touch Keypad

The HID Signo 20K is the keypad-equipped compact mullion-format access reader from HID Global’s Signo platform — supporting HID Mobile Access (Bluetooth + NFC), Apple Wallet employee badge, iCLASS SE, SEOS, MIFARE DESFire EV3, MIFARE Classic, and legacy 125 kHz HID Prox in a single reader, plus an integrated capacitive-touch keypad for PIN-code 2-factor authentication. Communicates over OSDP v2 with AES-128 encrypted secure channel + Wiegand legacy support. IP55-rated for indoor and protected outdoor positions.

Glass mullions and elevator panels are exactly where this reader earns its slot — condo and co-op front doors on aluminum-frame glass, walk-up entries where the building wants residents keying a PIN on top of their fob, and server-room doors where the audit checklist says two-factor.

Why Mullion + Keypad Together

Two requirements drive the Signo 20K:

  1. Narrow form factor — must fit on a glass door mullion, narrow aluminum door frame, or elevator cab panel where a single-gang reader is too wide
  2. 2-factor authentication — card-only access is insufficient; PIN entry is required for sensitive positions

The Signo 20K is the only HID Signo reader that combines both. Pick the Signo 20 (no keypad) when 1-factor access is enough, or the Signo 40K (single-gang + keypad) when standard wall mount works.

2-Factor Authentication — When PIN Matters

For most Chicago commercial doors, card-only access is sufficient. PIN 2-factor matters at:

  • Sensitive areas — server rooms, pharmacy storage, records rooms, electrical / mechanical
  • HOA / condo front doors where the building wants to require both a card AND a PIN that residents know
  • Cash offices at restaurants and retail back-of-house
  • IT closets and HVAC mechanical rooms at managed buildings

The Signo 20K’s capacitive keypad is resistant to wear, water, and grease vs. mechanical-button keypads — important for high-cycle door positions.
