Best Fit & Recommended For
Schlage MT15 Single-Gang Multi-Technology Reader
The Schlage MT15 is the workhorse single-gang multi-technology reader from Allegion’s Schlage MT series — built around a US single-gang form factor (~70 mm wide) that mounts on standard wall plates next to commercial doors. The MT15 reads both 125 kHz proximity credentials (HID Prox, AWID, EM, Indala) and 13.56 MHz smart cards (iCLASS, MIFARE Classic / Plus / DESFire, FeliCa, Picopass) simultaneously, outputting credential data over standard Wiegand to virtually any commercial access control panel.
Most MT15s we hang go on general commercial doors running third-party panels — Brivo, Genetec, Lenel, Software House, AMAG, S2, Continental, anything that speaks Wiegand. Its multi-tech reading lets sites support both legacy Prox cards and modern smart cards through a single hardware install — a major advantage for properties undergoing credential migration.
Why Multi-Tech Matters for Chicago Properties
Most Chicago commercial buildings carry installed-base credentials from previous tenants, prior contractors, or partial upgrades — a typical 30,000-square-foot property might have 200 active 125 kHz Prox cards alongside a fleet of new MIFARE DESFire smart cards. The MT15 reads both at the same time:
- No forklift card replacement — legacy Prox cards keep working
- Phased credential migration — issue new smart cards or fobs to new staff while existing cards stay valid
- Standardized hardware — one reader SKU fits every door regardless of which credential the user carries
- Wiegand output — works with any commercial access panel without proprietary firmware
Where the Schlage MT15 Wins in Chicago
- Chicago commercial offices — single-tenant and multi-tenant doors with mixed credential populations
- Retail back-of-house — stockrooms, manager offices, after-hours service entries
- Healthcare clinics and outpatient facilities — staff entries, supply rooms, administrative offices
- Education — administrative offices and classroom-cluster doors
- HOA and multi-tenant residential — building entries, amenity floors, package rooms
- Property management portfolios — standardized hardware across multiple buildings
- Industrial / warehouse — personnel doors, office areas adjacent to production
- Hospitality — back-of-house, manager office, operations center
