HES 9400 Surface-Mounted Electric Strike for Rim Exit Devices
The HES 9400 Series is HES’s slim, surface-mounted electric strike for commercial rim exit devices (panic bars) — only 5/8” thick, mounts directly to the door frame with no cutting or modification required. Important: the 9400 is NOT fire-rated — for fire-rated exit applications, see the HES 9500 instead.

9400 vs. 9500 — Which Surface-Mount
| Feature | 9400 (this page) | HES 9500 |
|---|---|---|
| Profile | 5/8 in thick (slimmer) | 3/4 in thick |
| Latchbolt accommodation | Up to 1/2 in throw | Up to 3/4 in Pullman latch |
| Fire rating | NOT fire-rated | 3-hr UL 10C fire-rated |
| Best fit | Non-fire-rated exit doors | Fire-rated exit doors (NFPA 80-07) |
For fire-rated openings, always use the HES 9500 — using the 9400 on a fire-rated door violates code. For non-fire-rated rim exit retrofits, the 9400 is the slimmer, lower-cost choice.
