Capture Advance Cameras & Recorders in Chicago
ADI's own brand of security cameras and NVRs — affordable options for budget-conscious projects across Chicagoland.
What Is Capture Advance?
Capture Advance is a private-label brand owned and distributed exclusively by ADI Global Distribution (formerly ADI/Honeywell), one of the largest security product distributors in North America. ADI launched Capture Advance to offer integrators a budget-tier line of IP cameras, analog cameras, and network video recorders that could be sourced directly through ADI’s supply chain at competitive price points.
The hardware itself is manufactured in China by OEM partners and rebranded under the Capture Advance name. This is a common practice in the security industry — many distributor-owned brands follow the same model (similar to how Costco sells Kirkland products). The underlying hardware typically uses Hisilicon or similar chipsets with firmware customized to ADI’s specifications.
What Capture Advance Offers
The product line covers several categories relevant to commercial security installations:
- IP Bullet and Turret Cameras — 2MP through 8MP models with IR illumination, H.265 compression, and ONVIF compliance. These are adequate for general surveillance in well-lit to moderate lighting conditions.
- PTZ Cameras — Pan-tilt-zoom models for larger coverage areas such as parking lots and loading docks.
- Network Video Recorders (NVRs) — 4, 8, 16, and 32-channel PoE NVRs with built-in hard drive bays. Suitable for standalone recording in smaller systems.
- Analog and TVI Models — For legacy coaxial systems that haven’t yet been upgraded to IP.
Where Capture Advance Fits
In Chicago projects, we occasionally encounter Capture Advance equipment — or clients specifically ask about it because their previous installer sourced it through ADI. Here’s an honest assessment:
Reasonable use cases: Small retail locations, temporary deployments, budget-limited installs where the client needs functional coverage quickly, and situations where the existing infrastructure (cabling, switches) limits investment in premium hardware.
Limitations to consider: Capture Advance cameras generally lack the sensor quality, WDR performance, and analytics capabilities found in brands like Hanwha Vision or Axis. Low-light performance is noticeably weaker, and the firmware update cadence is less predictable. For mission-critical applications — high-rise lobby coverage, loading docks with vehicle headlights, or parking garages — a higher-tier camera will deliver significantly better results over the system’s lifetime.
Vidimost’s Approach with Capture Advance
We work with Capture Advance when the project scope and budget call for it. Since the hardware is ONVIF-compliant, it integrates with most VMS platforms and third-party NVRs. Our installation standards remain the same regardless of the hardware brand — clean cabling, proper PoE budgeting, VLAN segmentation, and complete documentation.
If you have existing Capture Advance equipment that needs service, reconfiguration, or expansion — or if you’re evaluating it against other options for a new project — we can provide a straightforward comparison and recommendation based on your specific site conditions.
